Calling all Students for the New York City Regional Business Plan Competition (NYC-BPC) 

March 18, 2022!

2022 Event Description

The New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) is an annual Statewide Competition featuring student teams from all of New York. The NYBPC begins with 10 Regional Competitions. 

 

The NYC Innovation Hot Spot invites all students to join the New York City Regional Business Plan Competition (NYC-BPC)! The NYC-BPC final event will take place virtually on Friday, March 18, 2022. Two winning teams from six defined tracks (12 total winners) from this Regional Competition will receive a $500 prize and will advance to the Statewide final competition to compete for larger prizes to be held virtually in April 2022.

 

Prior to the NYC-BPC Final Competition, student teams are invited and encouraged to join our additional training workshops! Students participating in these opportunities will significantly increase their chances of advancing to the Statewide final round. Participants will create startup slide deck presentations based directly on their business idea through customer discovery and business model development!

Track 5: Consumer Products & Hardware: general track for ventures with business models that may not apply to other tracks

2022 Student Questions & Answers

Q1.

Who is eligible to compete in the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC)?

“Students” are any graduate, undergraduate, and/or community college students enrolled part- or full-time in accredited New York colleges and universities during the current academic year. Students who graduate during the Fall semester are eligible to compete in the competition during the Spring semester. Exchange students are also eligible. Please reach out to use if you are a certificate-bearing student

What is the application process for NYC-BPC Spring 2022?

After you reviewed the 2022 Competition Rulebook and created your 7-minute startup-idea slide presentation, you must submit your final-application here

The deadline to submit is March 14, 2022, 12:00 PM

You are HIGHLY encouraged to attend one of the pitch-preparation workshops or Office-Hours with a startup-mentor to create or review your slide presentation

What are the slide submission requirements for the March 14th deadline?

Each student will have 7-minutes to present LIVE on March 18, 2022. You will be stopped if you go over time! Slide decks must be in PDF or PPTX format only. Please see the below slide deck for the recommended content. If you need help, we recommend you take advantage of our additional training workshops!

Q4.

I only have an idea and I’d like to compete in NYC BPC on March 18, 2022 - where do I start? 

Two workshops are scheduled to help student-participants prepare before submitting their Final presentation. Both workshops will be the same content just at different times to accommodate student schedules. We will discuss what the judges are looking for, logistics, and presentation tips and tricks! Attending one/both of these workshops has shown to increase success rates of advancing to the Statewide Competition round. Sign up here

I can’t attend the additional workshops but would like to prepare?

Q6.

I have a team member that is not in New York. Is that okay?

Yes, as long as the main team-lead is a student at a NYC university

Eligibility:

  • "Students” are any graduate, undergraduate, and/or community college students enrolled part- or full-time in accredited New York colleges and universities during the current academic year.

  • Students who graduate during the Fall semester are eligible to compete in the competition during the Spring semester.

  • Exchange students are also eligible.

  • Teams may compete in only one region per year.

  • Students may not participate on more than one team per year.

  • Grand prize winners from previous NYBPC competitions are not eligible to participate in the competition - regional winners are welcome to compete again
