The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are federal programs that provide non-dilutive seed funding to startup companies for early-stage product development.
Each year, eleven Federal agencies, including NSF, NASA, and DoD, allocate 3% of their budget, through SBIR/STTR, to fund research activities that address a specific need of each agency. The SBIR/STTR programs are highly competitive and the application and proposal writing process can be daunting.
This Bootstrapping Your Startup Program is intended to assist NYC Innovation Hotspot and CUNY I-Corps trained entrepreneurs in preparing SBIR or STTR proposals.
This Program is designed to support companies that are ready to submit a full proposal in the upcoming submission windows. Companies intending to submit an NSF SBIR should review NSF 23-515 solicitation and the NSF SBIR/STTR website; before applying to this opportunity. Some factors teams will need to consider include company incorporation, an NSF Project Pitch submission, and the technological innovation you are working on.
The Bootstrapping Your Startup Program consists of two components for applicants who qualify:
1. A full-day in-person proposal preparation workshop
2. Additional one-on-one assistance hours with experts on SBIR/STTR to those who qualify
Previous workshops held:
NSF SBIR/STTR Intensive - January 11, 2023
NSF SBIR/STTR Intensive - May 3, 2023.
Upcoming workshops to be announced!
